HVS has developed a high power, portable microwave system and applicator for stripping coatings from structures including aircraft composites. The key challenge successfully addressed was delivering high power to the surface of a large structure while maintaining leakage within safe limits.

The system consists of a base unit on wheels that houses the magnetron, power supply, monitoring gauges, and safety interlocks for shutting the system down in case of misuse. A coaxial cable transports the microwave power safely to the applicator, which can be customized for various substrates and types of paint and is equipped with a microwave shielding gasket to provide leak free contact with the painted surface.
